My Vocabularly

Legitimate
合法的, 合理的
Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is invigorating autumn of freedom. (I have a Dream)
Legitimate is defined as according to law, it's fair or reasonable.
Ex: All citizens have the right for legitimate complaint.
It means it's legal to do some thing.

Languish
受苦, 受折磨
A hundred years later, the negro is still languished in the conners of American society. ( I have a Dream)
Languish is defined as to suffer neglect or hardship.
Ex:So many people are languished in prison.
It means to endure suffering

Degenerate
衰退, 变坏
We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. ( I have a Dream)
Degenerate is defined as to decline in physical, mental, or moral qualities.
Ex: The family party degenerated in to a drunk fight.
It means to become worse.

Tranquility
安宁, 平静
There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America untill the negro is granted his citizenship.
Defined as quality or state of being tranquil
Ex: One of the goals of the constitution is to insure domestic tranquility.
Tranquility means peacefulness, calmness.

Obnoxious
厌恶
In the old days I loved his lively frankness, but right now it struck me as obnoxious, and I was only mortified.
Obnoxious is defined as highly objectionable or offensive.
Ex: The little kid's obnoxious behavior is highly inappropriate.
It means hatred.

Mortify
羞愧
Defined as to humiliate only by injury to one's pride or self-regret
Ex: The student is mortified by the teacher's condemnation.
It means to shame.
